sfogliatine di mele

I’m used to have my breakfast at home and even if I love going to a coffee shop or a “bar” when I’m in Italy, I love to make my own pastries to be eaten as soon as I get up in the morning. I often bake these easy 3 ingredients apple danish pastries to start my day in the proper way.

You don’t need any baking skill at all, just have some shop bought puff pastry, good apples and some apricot jam and play with these 3 ingredients.

You can add dried fruit, nuts or hazelnuts to an even more special taste; if you’re looking for a richer taste, just spread some cream cheese on the pastry before laying down the apples.

What you need for 8 apple danishes

1 roll of puff pastry
4 red apples
4 tablespoons apricot jam
1 tablespoon of hot water
1 egg

1. Roll out the pastry and cut from it six rectangles; place the square of pastry on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
2. Lengthen the jam with 1 tablespoon of hot water and in the meantime take the oven to its maximum temperature.
3. Peel and cut four apples into thin slices and arrange on the pastry overlapping them slightly and leaving a bit of space on each side. Sprinkle the apple slices with the previously elongated jam with water. Whisk an egg and brush the edges of the empty puff pastry.
4. Bake at 180°C (356°F) for about 15 minutes and, once ready, open the oven and leave the pastry inside until they will be warm. Serve immediately or allow to cool completely.
